Our Purpose

Support Girls' Education

Kyra is 7. She lives in rural India and by this early age, she’s beaten a lot of odds.

Her birth was most likely unassisted, she was probably malnourished in her first years of life and chances are she has not had access to sanitation, exposing her to different types of fatal diseases.

But Kyra now has a new challenge ahead of her: to attend primary and secondary schools. This might seem like a simple step for girls in the US, but not for Kyra.

Education is a human right but chances are, she might become one out of the 62 million girls in the world who are out of school.

62 million.

For perspective, that is the number of all of US children up to the age of 14.

Being out of school not only means becoming an illiterate adult, but for girls it means a lot more. Girls who don’t attend primary and secondary schools are much more likely to be forced into child marriage and child labor, thus perpetuating their poverty condition. It is the loss of hope for a dignified future not only for themselves, but also for generations to come.

This is why education is such a powerful tool.

By giving every girl access to education we could prevent 100,000 deaths by childbirth; 3 million child deaths; 10 million child marriages; and 100 million girls from being involved in child labor.
